During the Phone-a-Thon on May 15th, 2012 we learned that Richard I. Smith passed away in December 2010.

May he rest in peace.

MANCHESTER --
Richard I. Smith, 86, died December 15, 2010, at Elliot Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Manchester, in 1924, to Wilfred and Yvonne Smith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a pharmacist's mate. He graduated from St. Anselm College in 1949.

He worked for New England Telephone Co. and as a Yellow Pages salesman for 33 years. A parishioner of St. Catherine of Sienna Church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Elks and Raphael clubs and Sweeney Post.

He enjoyed life with members of his family, including the last six summers at Hampton Beach where he assisted at the Grand View Motel for his son, Gary. He was also an avid follower of news and politics and enjoyed rides along the coast with his wife.

IN HIS LIFE: Family members include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ann (Walton) Smith; a son, Richard I. Smith Jr., and his wife, Lynda Gallagher, of Merrimac, Mass.; a daughter, Michele of Manchester; a daughter, Lesley and her husband, Harry Bobolas, of Hampton; a son, Gary of Hampton; a daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Bill Kurz, of Sunnyvale, Calaif.; a daughter, Tara and her husband, Ken Olson, of Portsmouth; and a daughter, Kimberley and her husband, Thomas Mitchell, of Laconia; 17 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Colleen Yvonne Smith, May 3, 1995.

SERVICES: Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Catherine of Sienna Church, 207 Hemlock St., corner of Webster Street, Manchester, followed by committal prayers in Mount Calvary Mausoleum.

Hilda M. (Jacobson) Surette, a longtime resident of Saugus, passed away on Thursday, May 9th,  at the Annemark Nursing Home in Revere.  Hilda was born in Portland Maine, the daughter of Joseph and Charlotte (Robinson) Jacobson.  She moved to Malden at an early age where she was raised and educated, graduating from the Sacred Hearts High School.  In January of 1944, she married her sweetheart, Joseph Surette, in the Immaculate Conception Church of Malden. They first lived in Malden together before relocating to Saugus around 50 years ago.  Hilda and her “My Joe” shared over 8 years together.   Over the years Hilda had worked different jobs, early on working nights at Transitron in Melrose so she could be there for the children during the day, and later for many years working as a cashier at the movie theatre in Revere, but her main focus was always being the caretaker for her Joe, as well as the children and grandchildren. 

She is survived by her husband, Joseph, her children Ronald C. Surette of Saugus, Thomas W. Surette of Malden, and Charlotte M. Leger of Saugus (formerly worked in YP Production), her very dear friends, Phyllis and Jackie Rubner, and Margaret D’Enturmont, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild
Hilda was preceded in death by her son Joseph C. Surette, and her granddaughter Charlene Surette. 
Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Saturday, May 12, from 4-8PM, with a Prayer service to be held  at 7:30PM.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 17th, from the funeral home  for an 11AM commital the Holy Cross Mausoleum, 175 Broadway, Malden.

Mr. David P. Sovulis, age 70, of Lynn, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday after a lengthy illness. Born and raised in Lynn, he was a graduate of Lynn English High School. He lived in Nahant for most of his adult life.

David worked as a self-employed carpenter. He loved to collect antiques and repair vintage cars. He enjoyed cruising at the Liberty Tree Mall Car Exhibition Group. An animal lover, David had many pets over the years, often taking in strays. He also enjoyed playing the guitar. He had a sarcastic, witty sense of humor that everybody loved, and will be remembered for his favorite phrase, “It is what it is.”

He is survived by his daughter; Kristen Blake of Haverhill; two grandchildren; Brad and Alyssa Cassidy; two sisters; Judith Isom of Peabody and Linda Mills of Florida; his sister-in-law, Theresa Sovulis of Peabody; his close friends, Susan Burke of Lynn and Rich Bandemer of Lynn. He was the former husband of the late Pamela DeMayo; son of the late Eleanor (Patten) McClusky, step-son of the late Bernie McClusky and brother of the late Steve Sovulis.

Richard E. Swiniuch Sr. 71, of Salem, beloved husband of Lucille A. (Viel) Swiniuch, prominent Salem Accountant, died Thursday morning surrounded by his family at Salem Hospital following a short illness.
     Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Louis and Clara (Szczechowicz) Swiniuch. He was raised and educated in Salem, he attended the former St. John the Baptist Polish Grammar School and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1957. He continued his education and graduated from Bentley College of Accounting and Finance in 1963, where he earned his degree in Accounting and Finance. An illustrious Salem business man, Mr. Swiniuch began his professional career as an accountant with Kennedy Rambler Company in Salem and Roberts Cadillac in Beverly Farms. He matriculated to Cooper Ford in Peabody and Thomas Ford in Beverly. All the while helping his father Louis prepare personal income tax returns at their client’s residences. Soon thereafter he went to work for Pioneer Bookkeeping Service in Salem. A few years later, he became the sole proprietor and renamed the business, Swiniuch Associates Inc. His dedication to his clients was un-paralleled and he was known for his attention to detail.
     He served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1962 until 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1968.
A widely recognized, active resident of the City of Salem, Richie was a long time member of the P.L.A.V., the Palmer Cove Yacht Club, the Veteran of Foreign Wars-Post 55, the Knights of Columbus Veragua Council 76 and the Moose Lodge, all of Salem.
     Always willing to share his opinion on the state of the City, Richie committed many years to the betterment of Salem through political means. As a civic-minded individual, he began his political career in 1974 and served the City of Salem for over two decades as a Ward Councilor, Councilor-At- Large, State Representative and Mayoral Candidate. He was also unanimously voted Salem City Council President in 1977. As a vocal visionary in the growth and development of many city projects, many plaques bear his name; at Shaughnessy Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital; the Salem Police Station; the Bentley Elementary School; and in the creation of "Swiniuch Park" in honor of his late father. He was always steadfastly dedicated to representing the citizens of the "Great" City of Salem. He built a well deserved reputation as a respected and incisive political activist, commentator and confidant well beyond his years on the city council.
     He was very proud of his Polish heritage and arranged for the Polish Tall Ships, on a few occasions to visit Salem and Boston to participate in historical celebrations. He became very friendly with the captains and crewmen of the ships and created lifelong friendships. He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing, history, and genealogy. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball as a pitcher first for the Polish American Citizens Club, the Polish Legions of American Veterans and Sylvania.
     He will be remember for his quick wit, his steadfast opinions, his smile, his ability to help others, his conversational acumen and most importantly his love of his wife, children and grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife of 48 years, Richie is survived by his daughter, Lauri Panneton and her husband Michael of Salem, his son Richard E. Swiniuch Jr. and his wife Lauren of Beverly, his grandchildren, Aaron and Christopher Swiniuch and Katherine and Jaclyn Panneton, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Walter Sikora of Peabody and Judy and Peter Dore of Salem, his brother Louis A, Swiniuch Jr. of Salem and his uncle, Philip "Babe" Swiniuch of Salem and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (At Salem Common) Salem, Wednesday at 9:15 A.M. followed by his funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd, Salem at 10 A.M. KENNEBUNK, Maine — Robert Paul Mulcahy, 86 years, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 26, with his family at his side.

Mr. Mulcahy was born November 15, 1925, in Waltham, Mass., to Paul A. and Helen M. (Donnelly) Mulcahy, the youngest of seven children, with one brother and five sisters.

He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waltham, Mass., where he was an outstanding athlete and captain of his ice hockey and football teams. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. He returned home from the war and graduated from Merrimac College, the second graduating class in the history of the college. On July 4, 1951, he married Marilyn McCusker and together raised their five children in Topsfield, Mass., and enjoyed 56 years of marriage until Marilyn's death in 2007.

He was a 33 year salesman for New England Telephone, and was nicknamed "Mr. Yellow Pages." Upon his retirement, he and Marilyn spent summers in Kennebunk, Maine, and winters in Naples, Fla.

Robert was a voracious reader, sometimes reading two books at once. He was very competitive and enjoyed playing tennis. He was an avid Boston Celtics fan and attended nearly every game for 13 years during Larry Bird's years with the team.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish - St. Martha's Church where attended mass daily, often with his children. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his brother and four of his sisters.

Surviving are his four sons, Mark, Paul, Sean and Liam and his daughter Maura Seymour and her husband Michael; a sister Eileen Blanchard; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, April 30, 2012 from 4-6 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Holy Spirit Parish -St. Martha's Church, 34 Portland Road, Kennebunk. Robert Arthur Theriault, 90, of Moultenborough, NH, formerly of Salem, MA, He was the son of Alberta (Tache') Fournier and Arthur Theriault

He graduated from Salem High School, Class of 1939. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945 as a Pharmacist Mate. He then pursued a thirty-five year career with the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co., as a directory advertising sales manager.

Robert (Bob) was the beloved husband of the late Virginia M. Theriault, nee Cote', also of Salem, MA.

He was a member of the Lion's Club, the Marblehead Little Theatre, taught Ballroom Dancing at the Alice Duffy Dance Studio in Salem. In addition to professional modeling and his passion for golf, he loved all things musical — playing the piano and singing in barbershop quartets and his church choir.

He is survived by his sisters, Aline 'Noonie' Gilligan, of Beverly, MA and Paulette (Fournier) Lowenthal of Wallingford, CT; his three children, Cheryl Cohen Greene and husband Bob Greene of Berkeley, CA, David A. Theriault and his wife Susan of Rockport, ME, and Peter A. Theriault and his wife Anna of Lafayette, CA; his six grandchildren, Jessica T. Cohen of Berkeley, CA, Allan E.T. Michael Mooskian (King), 55, of Florida, formerly of Saugus, died on April 3, 2012 from injuries after a motorcycle crash last June 2011.

Michael leaves behind his mother Eleanor Thistle of Seabrook, N.H.; his brother Sam and wife
Lorie, brother John and wife Sue, both of Saugus, brother Charlie and wife Heather of Pelham, N.H.; sister Christine of Naples, Maine and his sister Susan of Seabrook, N.H. Michael also leaves several nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and his beloved cat Buddy. Michael was pre-deceased by his brother Steven Mooskian, who died at the age of 15 in 1974.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. Mr. Victor H. Roy, age 65, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., formerly of Lynn, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with colon cancer. He was the loving husband of Alexandra H. (Bakker) Roy (formerly worked in Yellow Pages), with whom he shared 44 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of Adrienne M. (LeBlanc) Roy of Lynn and the late Henry Paul Roy Jr. A graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1964, he lived in Lynn for the greater part of his life. He moved to North Carolina five years ago after his retirement.

Victor served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, from 1964-1968, achieving the rank of Sergeant E-5. An expert rifle sharpshooter, he received the Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He worked as a realtor for over 20 years, and then worked for the City of Lynn Health Department until his retirement. He was a life member of the Franco American Amvets Post 161, Lynn, and was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Lynn. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, taking nature walks, fishing and boating on the ocean, cooking and working in his yard. Victor loved being around people, and loved to laugh and joke with his many friends and was loved by all. He was very proud of the fact that he raised a good and productive family.

In addition to his beloved wife and mother, he is survived by three loving daughters, Kim M. Burke and her husband Christopher P. of Derry, N.H., Tammy L. Duffy and her husband Scott E. of Chesapeake, Va. and Becky A. Dell'Arciprete and her husband John A. of Raleigh, N.C.; as well as six grandchildren, Adam C. and Nicholas M. Burke of Derry, N.H., Kaitlyn E. and Ryan S. Duffy of Chesapeake, Va. and A.J. and Avery R. Dell'Arciprete of Raleigh, N.C. He was the brother of the late Brenda A. Roy.

James Baird Mudge, 56, of Nashua, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. He was born on July 8, 1955 in Binghamton, NY, a son of Janet (Brown) Seehausen and the late Alden Mudge.

He was the beloved husband of Jill (Houghton) Mudge, whom he married on October 15, 1988 in Princeton, NJ. They met while attending graduate school at RIT, in Rochester, NY.

Jim graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY and went on to earn his Masters Degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He worked in the printing industry, at Verizon/Nynex Yellow Pages for many years, then as a Pressroom Supervisor for QuadGraphics in Leominster, MA.

Jim loved music, both listening and as a musician, especially Bluegrass. He was learning to play the pedal steel guitar, his favorite instrument. He also enjoyed reading and spending time outdoors. Biking, hiking, and skiing were among his favorite activities. Above all he loved spending time with his family. His family and friends loved him greatly and will miss him tremendously; it has left a huge void in the large family. Jim was happiest spending time with his immediate and extended family. He was always willing to help anyone, had a very kind and selfless heart, one of the loyalist friends one could have and an incredible husband and father. He just adored his kids and was very proud of all their accomplishments.

Along with his wife of 24 years, Jill, he is survived by his two children, Elizabeth and Samuel Mudge, both of Nashua; his mother, Janet Seehausen of Nashua, NH; three brothers and their spouses, Jared Mudge of New York City, NY, Alden Mudge and wife Mari Lori of Berkley, CA, and Richard Seehausen and wife Ann of Hurleyville, NY; four sisters and their spouses, Alice Iwasa and husband Sato of Harvard, MA, Mary Bresler and husband Jon of Bow, NH, Sina March and husband Chuttee of Denver, CO, and Sylvia Szucs and husband Joe of Galveston, TX; his in-laws, Douglas Houghton, Katherine Houghton, and Karly Houghton, all of Kingston, NH; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews, including Ben Bresler, Nina Seehausen and Isabelle Mudge.

We just learned that Chet Ziarkowski, the husband of Fran Ziarkowski passed away last year on June 17, 2011.  May he rest in peace.

SALEM — Chester J. (Chet) Ziarkowski, 87, of Salem, died early Friday morning, June 17, 2011 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Frances H. (Prince) Ziarkowski for 42 years.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Wisniewski) Ziarkowski. He was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1941 and a lifelong resident of Salem.

Chet was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard in December 1942. He attained the rank of Signalman 3rd Class, and was honorably discharged in March 1946.

Chet was employed by the North Shore Leather Company of Peabody for 29 years until the company's closing in 1971. Prior to retiring, he was a route driver for Mayflower Cleaners of Marblehead for 14 years.

Chet was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Salem. He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 55, and the Crow II Club. An avid golfer, Chet also belonged to the 10th Hole Club.

In addition to his wife, Chet is survived by a sister, Emma Marquis of Salem, formerly of Marblehead, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, William Ciosek and Richard Ziarkowski.

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. Arlene Gallo, age 61, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., passed away suddenly on March 30, 2012 in Belle Glade, Fla.

Arlene was the daughter of Louis Gallo and the late Catherine (Murphy) Gallo. She was born in Lynn and raised in Swampscott. Arlene attended Swampscott schools and graduated from Swampscott High School. She also attended Salem Commercial School in Salem.

Arlene worked for many years for Verizon Communications (in Delivery Dept.) and when she retired she was one of the few female cable splicers in the company.

Arlene relocated to Florida several years ago and enjoyed the warm weather, her beautiful home, and her beloved animals, Murphy, Bob and Maddie. Her three animals were like her children.

Besides her animals, Arlene leaves her father, Louis Gallo and his wife Jill (Consalvo) Gallo; her sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Vadala, her niece, Meredith (Vadala) Hussey and her husband Michael, her nephew, Thomas Vadala and his wife Lya. She also leaves her great nephews Shawn Hussey and Thomas Vadala Jr., and her great niece, Catherine Hussey. She adored her nephews and her niece. Arlene also leaves behind many close friends and neighbors, and her very close friend, Linda Burchaleski.

Bookkeeper, enjoyed trips to Foxwoods

LYNNAlice (Craven) Ferrier, age 72, of Lynn, died Saturday, April 7, 2012 in her home, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Oakley A. “Binky” Ferrier, and the daughter of the late Harold L. and Eleanor M. (Mahan) Craven.

Alice was born in Framingham and was raised in Lynn where she lived all her life. She worked for Target in guest services for three years. Before that she worked as a bookkeeper for Harvard Folding Box Company, now known as Simpkins Harvard Folding Box Company in Lynn.

She was an active communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Lynn and ran the 599 Club for over 25 years. She enjoyed dining out, trips to Foxwoods, visiting friends and family, going to the theater, shopping and taking day trips.

She is survived by her daughter Loreen Casey of Lynn, her son Anthony Ferrier of Lynn, two grandchildren Erica Lynch Ferrier of Lynn and Kirstin Casey of Lynn, two sisters,
Eleanor Patten and her husband William of Bradford, and Joan Bacon of Pensacola, FL, and two brothers, Bryan D. Craven and his wife Patricia of Middleton, and Richard Craven and his wife Mary Jane of Pensacola, FL. She was the sister of the late Rev. Francis Craven, Harold “Mikey” Craven and Ann M. Thornell.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Orvis W. Bonney Jr., 83, of Laurel Place, Hudson, N.H., died Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the VA Medical Center.

Orvis retired from Nynex in 1986, after 29 years of employment with NE Telephone in Manchester, N.H. He was a communicant of St. Jude Parish, Londonderry, where he served as an altar server. Orvis was also an avid golfer.

He is survived by two sons, Orvis W. Bonney III of Manchester and Kevin W. Bonney of Bedford, N.H.; three daughters, Debra A. Turnbull of North Adams, Mass., Lynn M. Cavedon of North Smithfield, R.I., and Karen E. Bonney of Hudson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine (Asselin) Bonney in 2007.

Phyllis D. McAskill, 85, of Seabrook, formerly of Lynn, died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.

She was born in Lynn, MA January 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Irving D. and Gladys (Haskell) Shand.

Phyllis was a graduate of Lynn English High School with the class of 1945. She worked as a waitress at the Hilton Hotel at Logan Airport and for various catering companies in Massachusetts.

Mrs. McAskill was a 57-year resident of Lynn before moving to Seabrook in 1984. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gautreau VFW Post 791 in Lynn and had been active with the Rebecca’s while living in Lynn. She enjoyed cards, bingo, bowling and dancing.

She was the wife of the late Peter J. McAskill, who predeceased her in 2009.

Family members include her twin sons, Peter J. McAskill, Jr. and his fiancée Jill of Sandown, N.H., and Stephen I. McAskill and his wife Karen of Amesbury; one daughter, Cynthia R. Terrazzano and her husband Al of Amesbury; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, N.H. “Laudable Lynner”

LYNN — Mr. Lincoln L. “Linc” Teal, age 94, died March 17, 2012 at Cedar Glen Care & Rehab Center in Danvers after a brief illness. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Martin and Ellen (Dodman) Teal. He was a lifelong Lynn resident and lived on Eade Street in East Lynn for 55 years, King’s Lynne for 10 years, and five years at Shoreview House (Lynn Home for the Elderly).

He was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1935 and a graduate of Bentley School of Accounting in 1941. Mr. Teal worked as a Quality Control Tester at the West Lynn Branch of General Electric until he retired in 1981 after 45 years of service. He was a crossing guard for 15 years until his second retirement in 1996.

Mr. Teal was one of the original “Laudable Lynners” awarded many years ago. A sports enthusiast, Mr. Teal wrote a popular column that appeared in the West Lynn Works, a newsletter for GE. Active in many sports, he played and coached semi-professional baseball. He also directed, for many years, the East Lynn Little League program. He was an elected official of the Original Model Cities Program.

Mr. Teal was the loving husband of the late Shirley F. (Anderson) Teal for more than 55 years. Lincoln is survived by six children; Marilyn Putnam and her husband Richard of Poulsbo, WA,
Robert Teal and his wife Linda of Saugus, Richard Teal and his wife Brenda of Poulsbo, WA, Kenneth Teal and his wife Deborah of Westford, Thomas Teal and his wife Cheryl of Peabody, and Nancy Parshley and her husband Joseph of Lynn. He was also the father of the late James Teal. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and, three step-great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles, George and Paul (his twin), Grace Tierney, Margaret Farnham, Ann Grant, Pearl John, Bette Hunnicutt, Florence and Alice Teal. Lincoln was the sole surviving sibling of 10 children.

Robert Charles Tierney Sr., 82

Mr. Robert Charles Tierney Sr., 82, of Danvers & Port Saint Lucie, Fla., beloved and devoted husband of Anna M. (Driscoll) Tierney, a retired Police Officer in the City of Peabody, entered into eternal life, March 16, 2012, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston surrounded by his family.

Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Bridget A. (McNulty) Tierney. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School.

An honorably discharged veteran, Robert served his country as a member of the United States Navy.

A steadfast public servant, Mr. Tierney had dedicated much of his professional life to helping and protecting the residents of the City of Peabody as a Police Officer for 28 years until the time of his retirement. Robert also had a successful career in the private sector, having been associated with the New England Telephone Co., retiring as a Yellow Pages sales executive.

A longtime member and past exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Post #1409 in Peabody, he was a member of the Boston Police Emerald Society and past member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He and his beloved wife had been winter residents of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., since 1984, a place they loved. A gentleman of the uppermost course, Robert was a devoted husband, a beloved father, a loving and proud grandfather, a dear brother and uncle, who provided a great example of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his beloved wife of 56 years, Robert is survived by his daughters, Anna “Nan” Tierney-Boland and her husband Geoffrey Boland of Swampscott and Mary C. Marulli and her husband Ralph of Reading; his sons, Robert C. Tierney Jr. and his wife Karen of North Fayston, Vt., Kevin M. Tierney Sr., and his wife Deborah of Danvers, and Brian Tierney and his wife Isabelle of Boulder, Colo.; his dear grandchildren, Kate and Lauren Crowley, Allison Tierney-Wood and her husband Rob and Kevin Tierney Jr., Alanna and Janelle Marulli, and Samantha, Gaelyn and Gabriel Tierney; his sisters, Ann Marie Burke and her husband Jack of Swampscott and Mary Dooling of Malden; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and extended family and friends. He was also the brother of the late James, Helen, Albert, Thomas and John Tierney.

Born in Melrose and a lifelong resident of Saugus, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Grace (Wiley) Waybright. Carole was a graduate from Saugus High School Class of 1950 and a devoted homemaker for many years.

Eleanor L. (Rockett) Williamson, 89, died Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Rosewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Peabody, following a brief illness. Eleanor is now reunited with her husband, the late Robert F. Williamson, who died in October of 1981.

Born in Norwood on September 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Catherine (Regan) Rockett. She was a graduate of the Sharon High School and Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School. She has been a resident of Beverly for over sixty years.

Eleanor declined a scholarship to Boston University, instead choosing to work in order to support the war effort. During World War II, she was employed as a secretary at the Boston Army Headquarters on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston for Colonel Armand Lamoureaux, who was the Headquarters Commandant and the Army’s Provost Marshall for New England.

Eleanor met the love of her life during the war when Bob, who was stationed with her brother, Ted in the Marines in Hawaii, began writing her letters introducing himself. Bob and Eleanor would meet in person when Bob returned stateside and was able to get leave. As soon as the war was over, Bob and Eleanor got married and started their family. Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and dedicated her life to taking care of her loved ones.

Eleanor was a member of the Cove Improvement Society, St. Mary’s Sodality and was an active volunteer at Beverly Hospital. A voracious reader, Eleanor looked forward to regular visits from the Beverly Bookmoblie. She also enjoyed being a member of the Wednesday Morning Group who met at the Church in the Cove weekly as well as her time swimming at the YMCA with her close friends, Ruth and Grace. Eleanor was accomplished at quilting, sewing and knitting and her family continues to treasure many of her beautiful handmade items.

She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Eleanor M. and John D. Filyaw of Beverly, Judith A. Williamson of Salem and Carole J. Williamson of Hollis, ME; a son and daughter-in-law,
Robert J. and Carla (Miraglia) Williamson of Colleyville, TX; three grandchildren, Meghan E. Fisher of Beverly, Brianne N. Williamson of Colleyville, TX and Jennifer A. Kotarides of Baltimore, MD; three great-grandchildren, Teddy Fisher and Ellie Grace Fisher both of Beverly and Cicely Kotarides of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Catherine Songin of Plymouth; sister-in-law, Joan Rockett of Foxboro and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Edward and John Rockett.

Zack A. Zalewski, 22, passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on February 15, 2012. He is survived by his father, Edward and his wife, Cynthia (Dorr) Zalewski of Groveland and his mother, Charlene (Chaplain) and her husband, David Sheehan of Lynn.

Born in Boston on July 6, 1989 he has been a resident of Groveland for the past 17 years. A graduate of Pentucket Regional High School class of 2008, he was a member of the Sachems football team. Zack was also a graduate of Northern Essex Community College, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts. He was currently an employee of Kendall Construction Co. in Groveland, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. Zack was an avid snowboarder and worked as a snowboard instructor at Ski Bradford for several years.

A lifelong dream of Zack’s came true when he traveled to Colorado to snowboard the peaks of the Rocky Mountains, an experience he truly enjoyed and would never forget. He also recently spent a week in Florida fishing with his family in the Gulf of Mexico. Zack was a person who never said no to anyone that needed his help and, above all, loved life and always turned a negative into a positive. The loss of Zack will surely leave a huge void in the lives of the people who knew him best.

He is also survived by his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Heather and Peter Garofalo of Lynn and Shauna and Mat Marcotte of Groveland; his maternal grandmother, Delores (Carpenter) Lee of Webster; two nephews, Cameron Powers and John Garofalo, both of Lynn; a niece, Ashlin Rose Marcotte of Groveland; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. He was also predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Arthur J. and Roberta H. (Gallagher) Zalewski and his maternal grandfather, Charles “Kenny” Chaplain.

SWAMPSCOTTWinifred "Winnie" C. Patrikas, beloved wife of the late Theodore C. Patrikas, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning while in the comfortable presence of her family.

Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Sarah Smith. Winnie was a resident of Swampscott for over 50 years before moving to her daughter, Jane's Guilford, CT residence where she was lovingly cared for until her passing.

Winnie was a 1944 graduate of St. Mary's Girls High School, attended Burdett Business School and worked at the General Electric Company in Lynn for 10 years before starting her family.

She was a devout daily communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott and an active member of St. John's Sodality. Winnie also worked at the Swampscott Public Library and Swampscott School System. In her later years, Winnie volunteered for several organizations.

She enjoyed long walks along the beach with her husband Ted, was an avid bowler and thoroughly enjoyed her seven grandchildren and attended all of their school and athletic events. She loved living in the seaside town of Swampscott. Winnie was rich in friends and one of her greatest joys was giving to others.

Winnie is survived by her son Teddy Patrikas of Danvers, daughter Jane Rosadini and husband Bill of Guilford, CT and son
Dana Patrikas and wife Zoe of Danvers. She also leaves seven wonderful grandchildren, TJ and Sean Patrikas, Nathan, Sarah and Katherine Rosadini, and Maggie and John Patrikas. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her grandson William J. Rosadini, her brother John Smith and sister-in-law Alice, and sister Peggy Gallagher and brother-in-law Frankie, and nephew/godson Joseph P. Gallagher.

Andrew James Coan, Jr., 87, of Danvers, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 in his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Jean F. (Mulligan) Coan, with whom he shared forty-five years of marriage.

Born in Peabody on Feb. 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Andrew and Catherine (Callaghan) Coan, he was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1941. He was also a graduate of the Beverly Co-op Trade School.

An honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Coan served proudly during WWII in the South Pacific on the PT Boat tender USS AGP 8 Wachapreague and in the Philippine Liberation Campaign. During the Korean War he served in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and was discharged as a Motor Machinist Mate 1st Class.

For more than forty years, Mr. Coan was employed as a machinist at the United Shoe Manufacturing Corp. in Beverly where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was a man with a generous heart. He was an avid sports fan and had a love of the sea.

He is survived by his children, Mark Coan and his wife Estelle of Peabody, Martha Prisby of Bow, NH, Patricia Coan of Peabody, Maryann Coan of Danvers, Carolyn Coan-Andrews and her husband Michael of Lynn, Clare Coan of Peabody, and Andrew Coan and his wife Laurie of Danvers, six grandsons, Edward Prisby and his wife Nicole, Adam Prisby, Patrick Coan, and Daniel, Liam, and Joseph Andrews, and two great grandchildren, Madison and Jackson Prisby. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Mark Prisby.

Chemann Marie Armstead, age 44, of Lynn, died Monday in Massachusetts General Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of William Howell.

Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of Retired Boston Police Officer Raymond G. Armstead and Francine E. (Hearns) Armstead of Middleton. She was a resident of Lynn for most of her life.

Chemann enjoyed reading but above all, she was devoted to her family especially her grandson. She was loved by many.

In addition to her husband and parents, she leaves her children, Latieka, Cherriette, Robbie and Jordan. She was the sister of Yolanda A. Sanders of Virginia, Mamit Kefei of Middleton, Candice Denton of Maryland, Lee Spencer of Upstate, NY. She is also survived by her grandson, Keldrin and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maryland State Trooper Raymond G. Armstead, Jr.

Her Funeral Service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Friday at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Visiting Hours Thursday 6-8PM.

Joan Marie (Bourque) Champoux, age 80 years, of Swampscott, formerly of Lynn, died Thursday January 5, 2012 at Salem Hospital, after being stricken suddenly at her home. She was the wife of the late John Champoux, and the daughter of the late Martin and Irene (Barron) Bourque. She was born in Danvers, and raised in Marblehead. She lived in Lynn most of her life until she moved to Swampscott in 2008. She was a graduate of Marblehead High School class of 1949, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society.
Joan worked as a young woman at Bell Telephone as an operator. Later she worked in sales for New England Telephone, retiring with over 20 years service.
Joan worked with Santa's Helping Hands for many years, and she was active in the Bell Telephone Pioneers. She volunteered at North Shore Music Theater for years as well. She was also a Communicant of St. Pius V Church. She enjoyed singing and listening to music, and loved animals and good conversation.
She is survived by her son David and his wife Lynne of North Yarmouth, ME, and her son Paul and his wife Teri of Woodbury, Minnesota; grandchildren Alexander and Phillip Champoux of Maine, Taylor, Emily, and Katelyn Champoux of Minnesota. She is also survived by her sister Anita Dion of Danvers, her loving fiancé Robert Burt of Swampscott; many nieces, nephews and cousins including Donna Boulay of Lynnfield, who was also Joan's Goddaughter, and with whom she was very close.
Her funeral will be held Monday January 9, 2012 8AM at SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129) Lynn, followed by funeral mass at Holy Family Church, Lynn at 9AM. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Sunday January 8, 2012 from 2:00PM to 6:00PM. Memorial donations may be made to Santa's Helping Hands, PO BOX 27, Lynn, MA 01902.
